Glossybox April - Sweet Treats!

So my Glossybox has arrived for April and again, this month is a themed box and it is called Sweet Treats and Glossybox have said in their magazine that with the official start of summer nearly on our doorstep, we have a box edit this month of beauty heroes that we hope will become your handbag essentials for the warmer months ahead.  So this is my box.

My first thoughts are hmmm I have seen some of these items in other boxes and I am intrigued as to what some of them are, so we have:

He-Shi Professional Tanning Face and Body Gel - A High performance self-tan that includes vitamin B5 and aloe vera for a gorgeous glow that nourishes the skin.  My only issue with this is that I have medium and as someone with pale skin, would I end up looking like an extra from TOWIE if I used it? Probably, so it is going to go to a good home.  This is a travel sized edition at 50ml and has an RRP of £7.95

MeMeMe Beat The Blues Pearl Pink - An essential for your make-up bag, this product is designed to highlight all your best features.  I needed a new highlighter as Moon Beam by Benefit has just run out and I really liked that, so now I have something new to try.  This is a 12ml sample with an RRP of £5.50

TRESemme Instant Refresh Cleansing Dry Shampoo - Well I have said before that I am not a fan of this range, but am prepared to give the dry shampoo the benefit of doubt. This is a 100ml can which is great for your handbag, though a full size is only 200ml would cost £4.99 making this worth around £2.50

Monu Spa Warming Ginger Massage and Body Oil - I am a big fan of the Monu range and have to date tried some fabulous products from them.  This little number is said to leave your skin luxuriously smooth and supple.  Thankfully the ginger scent isnt too overpowering because it is a scent I really dislike.  This is a 30ml sample and is worth around £7.50

The final item in my box is the Emite Make-up Li Brush L312 - This is a slanted lipbrush which is perfect for precise and professional looking make-up application.  The brush is made of synthetic Taklon hair which, as well as being allergy free, is easy to clean after use.  This has an RRP of £17.

So there you have, that is my box which is worth around £40, what do you think? I am actually sat on the fence with this one, I don't love it but I don't dislike it either.

Next month's Glossybox is a collaboration, but with whom we do not yet know...

Glossybox - March 2014 Edition

So my Glossybox has arrived for March and this month I used my Glossydots to get it and having seen a few other posts, I was hoping I would get some of the products they got.

Again, this month is a themed box and it is called Beauty Blossom and Glossybox have said in their magazine that now we can put winter behind us, shed the tights and black wardrobe to welcome in spring.  So to celebrate the season of changed, they have curated a Beauty Blossom theme for march.  So this is my box.

Glossybox - March 2014 Edition

Glossybox - March 2014 Edition

Glossybox - March 2014 Edition

Glossybox - March 2014 Edition

My first thoughts are hmmm... I didn't get the serum which ive seen in a few boxes and I quite liked the look of that because I am quite obsessed with serums right now. So this is a breakdown of what is in the box.

Mitchell and Peach Body Cream - With English Honey, Organic Cocoa, Vitamin B5 and Shea Butter, this Mitchell and Peach body cream is perfect to leave you feeling as though you've taken a walk in the English Countryside.  A 40ml sample is included in my box and a full sized 180ml would cost £36.  So at a rought guess this sample is worth around £8

Sleek Make-up Pout Polish and I have the shade Bare Minimum - This tinted balm is full of nourishment and has SPF15, almond oil, shea butter and Vitamin E, it will leave  your pout looking perfect.  The shade is a sort of peachy brown nude but when you use it, it is more of a clear gloss and I actually quite like it. This is a full sized product and has an RRP of £4.49

Bellapierre Cosmetics Ltd Shimmer Powder and I have Beige as my choice - This 100% pure Mica shimmering eye shadow will provide you with a long lasting vibrant colour without smearing, creasing or fading.  I am not new to Bellapierre make-up, I have a fair collection and happen to think it is pretty fantastic, so this is a nice little edition and it is also a full sized product which retails for £12.99

So those are the main items for me, three alright ones that I will use.  Now onto the products which frankly I probably won't use and feel a bit cheated about.

Dove Hair Therapy Intensive Repair 60 second shot - Hmm well... I don't use Dove hair products because they leave my hair feeling lank and greasy and whilst this is a full sized 15ml tube which costs £1.49 it isn't something I would buy or indeed use.  I much prefer my label.m versions which leave my hair feeling wonderful.  But this is the second 'shot' from a High Street Brand I have had in a Glossybox, the first being Tresemme which I also didn't use as I am not a fan of the brand.

Then there is not one but TWO Juicy Couture perfume samples.  For me, the only good thing about them is the bright coloured cardboard packaging which caught my eye.   This is what Glossybox say about them:

"Meet us in Malibu with Juicy Couture's Malibu collection! This fragrance blends the spirit of carefree Cali with Glam LA and we love it.

Sadly I like neither scent, one is meant to be fruity and the other floral, all I can see is that I won't use them.

So all in all it is an alright box, three products I like and three samples that I don't like.

Did you get your Glossybox this month? What did you think to mine?

You Beauty Discovery Box

I am a subscriber to Glossybox and for the last 3 months it has been pretty awful, with that in mind, before I decided whether or not to cancel it, I thought I would try You Beauty. I've heard a lot of people talk about this box and having read one or two reviews, I decided to bite the bullet and see what all the fuss was about.

Here is the box in comparison to Glossybox in size.  It fits through my letterbox with no problems.

The You Beauty Discovery Box is another subscription service, but it is just £6.95 per month and here is where it differs slightly, when promoted to go and look at the website http://www.youbeautydiscovery.co.uk/ each month, you will be asked to select two product samples from a list of between 6-10 and then those products will be in your box along, depending on stock levels, along with 2-3 other samples.  If you cannot decide which products you want, then You beauty will decide for you.  For more information on how to join and to read more about it, you can find everything easily described HERE.

So my first box arrived a few days ago and whilst one product was out of stock that I liked the look of, the other two were in stock so they got selected.  Here are the contents of this box:

You Beauty Discovery Box

You Beauty Discovery Box

You Beauty Discovery Box

You Beauty Discovery Box

You Beauty Discovery Box

Like other boxes you get a little menu with information about the products within your box, this one comes in the form of a magazine.

You might not be surprised to find that I opted for GlamGlow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate as one of my options, this is because ever since I read about it, I have been itching to try it. Described as follows "the ultimate at-home  mud treatment for immediate camera-ready super radiant skin. FOr when you need great skin and a glowing complexion in just 10 minutes. It delivers both instant and cumulative results and leaves your complexion revived and glowing, whatever your skin type".

The product in my box is a 15g tube which means I will get at least more than one use out of it.

The second product is Stila lipglaze in Kaleidoscope.  Not a product I have tried before and I opted for it because the Pixi Flawless and Poreless primer was out of stock. Described as follows: "The formula in Stila lip glazes has been created to provide strong lasting power, without drying out your lips. The easy to use click and brush applicator means you get an even deposit of colour with minimum fuss – perfect for applying on the go!"  This is definitely an evening wearing lipglaze, it is very sparkly and would be a great finish to a great outfit.

The next two items are surprise items or extra treats as the booklet refers to them as and they are Charles Worthington Instant amplifying volume treatment and Beyond Dark Moments of Pleasure Hint of orange.

Charles Worthington treatment is described as follows "A true red carpet star and the official product of the EE BAFTAs in 2013, this rinse-out weightless jelly has been desgined to lift the hair from the root to tip leaving it fully conditioned with high impact body and bounce for an A-list glamorous finish".  An interesting concept that I am still debating whether I will or will not use, would be interested in other peoples views if they have used this or want to use it.

Beyond Dark is described as follows "Beyond Dark is the ultimate chocolate treat - these delicious drops of pure pleasure are packed with more than three times the antioxidents found in other dark chocolate.  Contains the antioxident equivalent of 25 oranges, 8 bananas or 5 apples in every 35g pack".  They are also wheat, gluten and dairy free as well as being suitable for vegetarians.  Hmm well nothing makes chocolate sound more appealing than being told it is actually good for you right!

Now I am really impressed with this little box of treats, infact I would have paid the £6.95 for the GlamGlow mud alone because I really want to try it out.  I am going to continue with this box for a few months so I can get a real feel as to whether or not the value for money continues.

What do you think?  Do you get this box?

February Glossybox - Be Mine!

So my Glossybox has arrived and I did feel quite apprehensive about opening it because lets me honest, January's box was awful!  To be fair, I have had one or two emails from Glossybox with a survey attached to ask questions about my views on the box because it had been noted that most of us had been unhappy with the box contents.  So issues aside, what did February have in store?

Well it is a themed box and Valentines Day the natural choice, the box is totally brilliant, I loved it and here it is:

February Glossybox - Be Mine!

February Glossybox - Be Mine!

The kisses all over the box, which in itself had a make-over for the start of 2014 - it now has more depth to it and has a glossy finish, but this box is my favourite to date.

As for the contents, well here they are:

February Glossybox - Be Mine!

February Glossybox - Be Mine!

So this is quite a full box this month with 7 things in it!  My only grumble with the box is the Eldora Eyelashes.  One thing I don't use are false eyelashes because I cannot apply them for love nor money and end up getting quite stressed out about it, so instead I settle for a good mascara.  Anyway they retail for £3.90 and are described as follows "Every cosmetic connoisseur adore these simple and beautiful, high quality lashes by Eldora.  Their extensive range means there's a style to suit everyone".  Anyway, I am sure I can find them a good home!

Next up is Nougat London with their Sparkling Body Shimmer.  This bottle is 100ml and comes with the following description "Add radiance to your skincare regime with Sparkling Body Shimmer.  This body lotion with mallow extract, vitamin E and wheatgerm enriched oil will leave your skin luxuriously perfumed with a hint of sparkle"  Its actual scent is called Cherry Blossom and it smells divine, quite a thin texture, so it easily absorbs into the skin but it does leave behind a bit of a glitter effect on the skin.  A full sized 250ml product retails for £14 making this worth around £5.60

H2K Skincare comes next and not a brand I am familar with, but with two products in my box this might change.  I have a conditioning shampoo and a hydrating hair conditioner both of which are said to revitalise and nourish my hair.  Hmm well not too much of an introduction to a brand I have never heard of in all honesty, but they will go into my jar for weekend away products which is the intention.  Both of these sizes retail at £2.48 each

Ciate London Nail Polish - Now you can never have too many nail polishes right?  I am a huge fan of Ciate and have quite a lot of different shades and I already have this one which I won in a twitter competition as you can see HERE.  That said it is a fabulous shade and is desvribed as follows "Even without the gin, this yummy berry magenta is as toxically delicious as its namesake". This is a full sized product and retails for £9.

The final product is Maybelline New York Big Eyes Mascara.  Again, I am a mascara lover and it is the one product I will never leave the house without, so whenever I get a new one, I am quite chuffed.  This is a new product and is described as follows "Double the drama with Maybelline's first eye-opening double brush mascara.  Built with specific upper and lower lash brushes, Big Eyes Mascara produces an all-around eye-opening effect". Now this product excites me and I want to rip it open and try it out, but I must use up and finish two other mascaras that are almost empty first, but doesn't it just sound like the perfect mascara?.  Anyway it is available for £8.99

In this months box was a little treat, a Lindor Treat Bar which is just fabulous and now all gone.  Retails for 79p per bar and is delicious.

So a box that has contents worth around £33 and for me a great box this month and I just hope Glossybox manage to keep this up!  What do you think to this box?

January's Glossybox!

It has been a long time coming this month, but here is the January edition of Glossybox! I haven't been all that impressed with Glossybox in the last quarter of the year, some of the products left the mind blogging as to why in earth they would be included and even some of the 'themes' made no sense compared to the accompanying products.

Anyway it is now 2014 and here I am hoping Glossybox have got their act together before I log in and finally hit that cancel button...  Here is the contents of my box:

January's Glossybox

January's Glossybox

January's Glossybox

So back to basics is the topic and subject of the box and Glossybox has had a bit of a make-over.  The box is much pinker than usual and glossier and the ribbon on the inside is a nice touch... but the products this month... well:

January's Glossybox

January's Glossybox

Anatomicals Puffy The Eye Bag Slayer Wake-up Under Eye Patches - made me giggle as the name is funny and apparently if you look like a character from The Walking Dead these eye patches should reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and revitalise the delicate area around my eyes.  A full size pack of 3 retails for £6 and in my pack there are two.

January's Glossybox

Vaseline Essential Moisture Lotion - a non-greasy moisture lotion to keep your skin supple and looking great.  This is a 50ml bottle, nowhere near fullsize (which would cost £4.99) not too chuffed to have this in my box as I am not that much of a fan of Vaseline products personally.

Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash - another 50ml product and one I am happy to see because I am a huge fan of the Balance Me range and this is a product I am yet to try.  Said to have a blend of juniper, bergamot, geranium and lavender essential oils, this body wash is a good way to start your day.

January's Glossybox

Yu-Be Moisturising Skin Cream - 2 sample tubes with 3g in each.  This product is a multi-use cult moisturising cream from Japan which revamps your skin, enriching it with Vitamin E, Vitmain B2, Camphor and has a uniquely high glycerine content.  Not heard of this before, but will see what it is like once I use it.

January's Glossybox

January's Glossybox

The final product, the one I knew would be in the box is this lovely floral design tweezers from The Vintage Cosmetic Company.  You can never have too many pairs of tweezers and these ones are actually quite good and retail for £8 and I believe the only full sized product in the box!

So, erm that is it! What do you think?

December Glossybox

After last months 'iffy' Glossybox where upon which none of the items would ever feature on my wishlist, we now have December, a box I had been quite looking forward too given some of the spoilers I had seen and the fact Glossybox themselves seemed quite chuffed that every box would have a Maybelline product inside.

Here we have what was in my box.

December Glossybox

So already I am really impressed with the packaging and surprisingly it is actually Christmassy and something I would expect to find.  The candycane tissue paper is really pretty and inside, protecting the items is a bright green tissue paper, clearly in keeping with the Christmas theme.  Now to the products:

So we have:

Beautiful Movements Cosmetics Pinky Nude Lip Gloss (Picture to come)
BMC is a company that has been set up by former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt. This gloss has no scent and thankfully hasn't got the horrid sticky quality to it like so many lip glosses do! The colour is a fairly subtle, it is kind of pretty and thankfully it doesn't make you lips overly pale or orangey. I like this but I don't love this and I wouldn't necessarily be purchasing this again and probably wouldn't choose it over another colour.

Wilkinson Sword Intuition Naturals Razor
Not too sure how I feel about finding this in my "luxury sample box" to be honest with you nor why it would feature in my Christmas Box and not at any other time of the year, like the summer when I am more likely to have my legs out.

Maybelline New York Colour Tattoo 24hr Eye Shadow - Everlasting Navy
Whilst I am happy to see a Maybelline product and as beautiful as this one is, sadly it is not a colour I would ever choose to wear.  If there is someone out there who reads my blog and would love to try it, please let me know and I will send it to one of you because I would hate for it to go to waste.

Seche Nail Lacquer - Audacious
I am a huge fan of Seche nail polishes and I was quite chuffed to see this, not usually a colour I would choose and it is referred to as being 'Red Fuscia' I am more than willing to give it a try.

Lipsy London Glam Perfume
Hmm mixed feelings about this 'sample' of perfume. The brand new perfume from Lipsy is described as being "Strikingly gorgeous, amazingly beautiful, exceptionally glamorous and forever aspirational" well, it isn't a perfume that I would ever buy to wear, though the actual bottle is stunning. As for the scent, it is said to combine fruity honey and sweet top notes, the heart notes complement with Orchid, Jasmine and Peony and the base notes are deep with Amarylis and black incense. I find it a bit too strong for my senses sadly.

I've come to the conclusion that 'samples' of perfume in these beauty boxes should be just that, a sample and not an alternative for someone else.

Overall, I was more excited about the actual box and tissue paper than the contents. It is estimated to be worth just over £30, I could have got a lot more for my money.

What do you think?

Dr Lipp Nipple Balm for your lips!

Part of my night time skincare routine does involve my lips. Lips for me are an important feature and I like to do as much as I can to ensure they look and feel soft, smooth and supple rather than dry and cracked with bits of skin hanging off all over the place.

Dr Lipp Nipple Balm was a product I had only heard of but had never used, then I got a sample in my Glossybox and I put it to one side for quite a while until I read a few blog posts about how good it was with some people referring to it as their Holy Grail Lip Balm, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to try it for myself.

Dr Lipp Nipple Balm for your lips

Dr Lipp Nipple Balm for your lips

According to the website: Dr.Lipp was originally developed as a nipple balm for breastfeeding women because of its ultra hydrating & hypoallergenic multipurpose properties. Dr.Lipp has many benefits both medical and for beauty and is ideal for dry cuticles, dry skin patches, burns and abrasions, severely chapped lips, sore nipples, split ends, eczema, babies’ bottoms, and much much more.

The tube that I have is quite a small one and it contains just a 3ml tube and the product inside is like a thick gel, similar in consistency to Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream (which I dislike a lot) only it is totally without any scent or odour.  I always apply this to my lips every night before I go to bed and you only need a really small amount.  when I used this for the very first time, I was expecting to get that horrible greasy feel that Vaseline leaves on my lips, but instead it felt nothing like that and more natural, as though I had applied a normal lip balm and on my lips was a lovely sheen.

If like me you suffer with dry lips, this product is wonderful, for me it is a miracle worker and I am glad I had the chance to try a smaller version as a full 15ml tube costs £11.95 which although pricey, for me is worth every single penny.

Dr Lipp Nipple Balm for your lips

As a product, Dr.Lipp is 100% pure and natural, hyper allergenic, tasteless and odourless and it contains no parabens or fragrance and is approved by Ecocert France. Dr Lipp is made from 100% ultra pure medical grade Lanolin which is harvested during the summer from natural Sheep’s wool and cleansed of all impurities to make our ultra pure ‘Queen’ of Lanolin.

Finally, Dr Lipp is:
  • Proven to help reduce skin roughness by 40% in one hour.
  • Considered by dermatologists and scientists to be one of the safest ways to care for your skin as the Lanolin lipids (oils) are so similar to your skin’s natural oils that they easily penetrate & absorb deeply into your skin.
For me this is a brilliant product and I absolutely love it, it does everything that it states it will do for the ways in which I use it.
