Kohl Kreatives Mi-Fan Brush - made from rice!

If I told you that a makeup brush brand had created a fan brush made entirely out of rice, as in Rice, would you believe me? Admittedly I thought it was a bit of a leg-pull, but it isn't and it is absolutely true.  Meet Kohl Kreatives Mi-Fan Brush.
Kohl Kreatives Mi-Fan Brush
Kohl Kreatives is a brand I have featured twice. First with their Flex Collection brushes here and more recently with their Feast Your Eyes collection of brushes here. For me, they are a brand which thinks outside the box and does things that no other brand that I have used, own products from or have seen on my social media do.

Mi-Fan which is said to mean Cooked Rice in Chinese if you are wondering, is a brush like no other I have come across in the way that it is made. This brush is made entirely of processed rice husk, which makes it sustainable and conscious production, something Kohl Kreatives holds dear to their heart. Brand founder Trishna Daswaney states:
"We only use old and disposed of waste to produce out brushes. The Upcycling process is really key in our production process as well as looking after the people who help us to create them"
The Mi Fan brush eliminates plastic altogether, which I have to say impresses me a lot. When rice is produced, the husk is removed, this husk would usually go to waste. It is at this stage that the husk if collected and combined with plant starch to produce a new compound made up of 80% husk and 20% plant starch. This further creates an almost clay like material which can then be moulded and shaped, giving you the Mi Fan brush.

As with the Feast Your Eyes collection, this brush also has a cubed handle, you could say it represents a chopstick, once again this shape ensures the brush doesn't roll when you set it down, it is easy to grip and in keeping with the brands ethos, not only is it easy to use for those with motor disabilities, it has a raised QR code which leads to the brands audio guide, so if you have a sight impairment, you can hear just how to use this brush.

The fan brush, which is perfect for that subtle dust of highlighter, for using to apply your face mask or even for baking your makeup, is incredibly easy to use.

Priced at just £8.99 it won't break the bank and all the proceeds from all sales go towards our charity Kohl Kares providing free workshops for a variety communities ranging from transgender and, cancer care support, as well as those with motor and visual disabilities. Brushwork Makeup Brushes and Accessories

Only recently I reviewed the Brushworks Precision Eye and Brow Brush set (here) and today I am back with two further products from the range which I have been using. If you have never come across the brand Brushworks before, you might be surprised to learn that they are an award-winning beauty brand who has an extensive range of makeup brushes, beauty tools and accessories, all of which are available from Tesco with prices starting around £5.49.
Brushwork Makeup Accessories
The first of two products to share is the Brushworks HD Multi-Tasking Sponge, which is a bright Barbie Doll pink is not something you are going to miss within your stash. Described as a latex-free hydrophilic sponge, it has is ultra-soft, non-sensitive, flake resistant and long-wearing. Like similar products, it expands with water to make using it and blending an easier task to complete and it also absorbs less makeup, holding only what is absolutely necessary.

Now the sponge is a slightly different shape and size to other products you might have used and this one has four different edges that can be used:
  • The broad rounded side of the sponge is best used for basic application of foundation and liquids.
  • The tapered end is better suited to detailing whereas the flat side is great for contouring with creamy products.
  • The point is said to be ideal for details & helps blend those hard to reach areas to prevent caking in fine lines and creases.
This sponge retails for around £6 and can be found online with Feelunique, Amazon and Tesco to name just a few.

The second product is the Brushworks HD Multi-tasking brush which features the same colouring as the Eye and Brow set mentioned above.

Suitable for use with both powder and liquids, this brush, which is handcrafted with a domed, flattened head has really densely packed in really soft bristles.  I have been using this brush mainly with my BB and CC creams and it does work really well, leaving a smooth and flawless finish.

Again, this brush can be found in Tesco and it retails for £7.50 and all the brushes from Brushworks are cruelty-free and Vegan-friendly.

Pür Cosmetics Bare It All 4in1 Skin Perfecting Foundation

Pur Cosmetics is a new brand to me, new in that I have been playing around with it for quite a few months and now I find that I need everything they do, a simple walk round Marks and Spencers for example could leave me bankrupt.
Pür Cosmetics Bare It All 4in1 Skin Perfecting Foundation
One product I have really, really loved using is the Dare to go bare with the Pür Cosmetics Bare It All 4in1 Skin Perfecting Foundation. It is everything I should dislike but is infact just beautiful and I am sure from the description, it would make you want to try it:
Skin is the sexiest part of the body and this high performance, 12-hour demi-matte foundation helps to cover imperfections and instantly perfect the skin while helping to correct problem areas over time so you can confidently bare it all. Designed for face and body and formulated with PÜR’s proprietary Energy Complex and Ceretin® Complex, this formula renews the look of your skin and goes the distance. It will not fade, quit or crumble under any condition you may face throughout your day.

The PUR Cosmetics Bare It All is as the description states, a 12 hour 4-in-1 demi-matte foundation which claims to cover imperfections and instantly perfect the skin. In doing that it attempts to help correct those pesky problem areas over time so that you can confidently bare it all. I have made no secret of the fact I have red patches on both cheeks, they tend to flare up when I am stressed, during that time of the month or due to seasonal changes and whilst part of me has just learnt to live with it, but, there are times when I just want to cover them up.

Pür Cosmetics Bare It All 4in1 Skin Perfecting Foundation
The foundation is available in 6 shades, I have got the shade Porcelain which is the lightest of the 6 and is described as being for fair skin with golden undertones. Next is Light - Ivory, beige skin tones followed by Blush Medium which is for Medium beige with pink undertones, Golden Medium which is a medium beige with yellow undertones, Light Tan for olive skin with yellow undertones and finally Tan which is described as being for Medium tan with rosy undertones.  So I think there is a good range of shades available.

The formula was the testing point for me, I like my foundations to not be overly thick and this one is quite a thick formula but rather than leaving my skin feeling caked and unable to breathe, it is instead really lightweight and I love how it feels on the skin.  Given it is quite thick, you literally need a small amount to cover your face but one word of advice in that it does set quickly and it does last pretty much all day too.  I have combination skin which leaves me with an oily t-zone but a slight dryness to the cheeks, but I have found that this foundation neither slips or sticks and it uses, what are referred to as 'Age-defying ingredients like Ceretin Complex®, combined with good-for-your-skin antioxidants' each of PÜR’s products corrects and perfects the skin.

The brush that accompanied this foundation and the one I use to apply it is the PUR Skin Perfecting Foundation Brush.
It is a large, thick handled oval brush which is so incredibly soft and smooth, it is full of cruelty free, synthetic micro fibre bristles which are really dense and blend the foundation so effortless onto the skin. This is quite possibly the best Oval Brush that I have tried to date too, it is study, it doesn't bend when you use it and I just really, really like it.

You can find the PUR Bare It All 4in1 Skin Perfecting Foundation here Marks & Spencer, for £29.00 and the PUR Skin Perfecting Foundation Brush HERE for £19.00.

If you like a foundation that gives Full Coverage and is High End, then Emmy over at EmmyWritesAbout might have something for you.
