BIKINI BODIES: STYLES THAT BEST SUIT PEAR SHAPES

When someone utters the word 'Bikini' to me I almost break out into a sweat. There is absolutely no way that I was ever created to wear a bikini, not with my generous share of bosoms anyway! So when Blossom Lingerie sent me their interactive guide to finding the best bikini style for pear shaped body shapes, I thought nothing to lose, lets have a look. Take a look at the Blossom Lingerie website to see the full interactive guide.

So, if you have what is described as being a 'pear shaped body', you will carry more weight below the waist, meaning that your hips and thighs are much wider than your torso and possibly your shoulders. By following the right guides, you can accentuate your good bits, hide your not-so-good bits, and will end up looking and feeling absolutely gorgeous.

Apparently, a great way to lengthen your body is to wear what is called a tasselled bikini top that is longer in the middle.  Now I am not one to keep up with fashion, but anything with tassels is going to have my cats swinging from it and in this area no thank you. However, jokes aside, the angles of the tassels on a bikini top like this are said to create vertical curves that will complement your natural body shape. It is also said that this type of design will also draw out your stomach whilst lengthening your body. This boho look is in at the moment, and you have the added bonus of being able to play around with patterns and colours t your hearts content. Choose a clean-skirted brief that rests below the largest part of your thighs to best show off your smaller waist.

What type of Bikini are you comfortable in?

  1. I'm a pear-shaped gal myself, so this guide is really helpful for me. I'm still not sure I would have the guts to wear a bikini though - eek! xx

  2. I love the idea of a hassled bikini! These days I'm an all one piece type of girl. Having a baby means there are bits I can't put on show anymore lol. x

  3. I still don't feel overly comfortable wearing a bikini but I have got better as I've got older. I also think the main problem with us gals who don't like being seen in public wearing skimpy beachwear is in our heads. We are our own worst critics! Tx

  5. Every time I go abroad I do the same thing. I look at bikinis, find one I love, then talk myself out of it and end up with a one piece. Then I get there and realise of course not everyone is a super model, they are normal people just like me, so I go and buy one there, and I never seem to find one I like as much as the one I didn't dare buy at home! Next time I'm going to be brave and just buy a bikini, especially after reading this guide and finding out which ones will actually suit my body type :)

  6. I used to have a gorgeous brown sparkly bikini but I lost my confidence since having the girls. Now I wear a tankini so you can't see my stretch marks.

  7. I'm hoping next summer I will be bikini ready for the first time in four years! I'm determined to feel confident in my own skin regardless of stretch marks that I have received from my beautiful children. I really like the tassled style bikini, looks very flattering xxx

  8. It sounds like a great idea, sometimes it is difficult to know what would suit your shape and the difference that styles can make can be huge. Personally I have never been comfortable enough to wear a Bikini x

  9. I'm definitely pear shaped and I would agree about the tassles. I've spent my whole adult life figuring out how to complement my shape. Being an 8/10 on top and a 12 (14 when I'm overweight and need to diet ;) ) isn't easy. But I've learned to appreciate my curves x

  11. I'm a total apple shape and put on all my weight on my tummy so I barely ever wear a bikini and since having children never. But this is lovely advice for bodyshapes.

  15. I can't look at the tasselled bikini without thinking of 70s lamp shades!!! It's amazing how much of a difference the different shapes make on the perception of body shape though.

  16. Oh my gosh, it made me laugh about your cats swinging from the tassles! I can see what you mean about the angle creating an illusion though. I haven't worn a bikini in yonks but going on holiday in May so will need to brave one! x

  23. Sadly post children I'd not be very comfortable in a bikini at all, unless I was on a private beach which is never going to happen!!
