REN EverCalm Barrier Support Elixir

I have had this product for quite some time now and I really wanted to give it a try before sharing my thoughts on it. Ren Clean Skincare is one of my favourite brands, there is yet to be a product I dislike or have not been excited about - the same can be said for the EverCalm Barrier Support Elixir which has been absolutely everywhere.
REN EverCalm Barrier Support Elixir
Barrier Support is one of those current buzzwords, every man and his dog has a product for it and I am here for it because it is something we all need to think about.

From Ren, you get a formula which is 100% natural and is the perfect oil to use for those who have sensitive skin. We all know that when your skins barrier has been compromised, in fact we have all probably suffered from it because all of a sudden you find your skin becomes uncomfortable, itchy, dry, scaly, has redness to it, feels tight and can become sensitive and have breakouts. At this stage, your skin is what is called 'impaired' and this means it is not able to functional normally, so instead the skin's barrier, or the outermost layer of your skin to you and I, serves as a protective shield to stop environmental stressors, irritation, and inflammation from getting in whilst at the same time holding onto and keeping in all the goodness - think moisture. How do you damage it?  Well using skin care products with an ingredients list that is too-harsh for your needs, one of the most common causes is over-exfoliating and then we have Mother Nature herself with extreme environments - such as a change in weather from hot to cold and a blast of icy wind also doesn't help.

So what is the Ren EverCalm Barrier Support Elixir and what does it do?

This Elixir is cis a clinically proven lightweight face oil to help repair and strengthen the skin barrier within 7 days, better still that change can start in as little as 30 minutes!
Created to combat dryness and signs of sensitisation or irritation, the soothing microbiome-friendly and fragrance-free formula contains 100% natural-origin ingredients, to leave skin instantly feeling more supple, comforted and hydrated.
The Elixir itself is a lightweight oil, and I mean lightweight to the point where you have no signs on your face that you have applied it. It isn't greasy, it isn't sticky and it certainly isn't tacky after application. Instead, it is soft, it is smooth and thanks to the inclusion of a pipette, it is easy to apply.
REN EverCalm Barrier Support Elixir
This Elixir is enriched with what Ren call 'a carefully selected blend of 7 natural oils' and their job is to work together to intensively nourish and replenish skin. So expect to find:
  • Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, sourced from the 'purest place on earth' Jeju Island in Korea, soothes skin and helps reduce signs of sensitivity.
  • Cold-pressed Organic Inca Inchi Oil, one of the world’s richest sources of omega 3 and 6, replenishes the skin and helps repair the skin barrier.
  • Meadowfoam Seed Oil, sustainably sourced, is rich in lipids and antioxidants, nourishes the skin and helps strengthen the skin barrier.
Designed to be used both morning and evening, having cleansed or double cleansed, you simply need to warm 5 drops of the Evercalm™ Barrier Support Elixir in the palm of your hand and then apply it directly onto that cleansed skin by gently patting over the face, neck and décoletté until it has fully absorbed.

I have mentioned a few times now that after having Covid, my skin was not at all happy. It was dry and itchy, red and very annoying. So I stripped my skincare routine right back to the basics, including no make-up other than tinted moisturiser and mascara (never without) and then when there has been little improvement, this Elixir from Ren arrived in mid-March and I have religiously used it and it is here that I found a huge difference.  My cheeks, though still slightly red and flushed are no longer angry and scaly, my forehead no longer looks as though I've tried to exfoliate using a Black and Decker sander and is also no longer itching.  So I am calling that win!

Priced at £44 for 30ml, it is definitely one to try for anyone who loves the EverCalm range and also anyone who feels their skin barrier has been compromised!

Lush Sleepy Candle

I am a huge fan of candles, something I do talk about a lot and the latest addition to my ever growing yet depleted stash comes from Lush.  Candles are possibly not the first thing you think of when it comes to Lush, more bath bombs and shower gels, but they do offer a whole range of candles and Sleepy is the one I have used.
Lush Sleepy Candle
Lush Sleepy Candle
The Lush Sleepy range is more than just this candle, it actually includes a Shower Bomb, a Soap, Dusting Powder, a Bath Bomb, a Shower Gel, a Bubble Bar, a Soap and of course a Face and Body Mask. The collection is all about a calming and relaxing influence.
And relax…this herbal, lavender scented Lush candle is the perfect companion for a relaxing bath or pre-bedtime routine. Perfectly sized to transform the space immediately around you into a calming ylang ylang haven, add to your Sleepy routine for the ultimate wind-down.
This candle, is made from high quality, ethically-sourced essential oils and each candle has a natural wax base of rapeseed wax, coconut oil, coconut wax and castor wax and impressively they are all 100% vegan. The beautiful frosted glass within which the candle sits is also completely reusable or 100% recyclable.

When my candle arrived, I could smell the Lavender before I opened the box and it is so wonderfully fresh scented, it is as though you are walking past Lavender plants that you might have outside in your garden, or at the garden centre. Both Lavender and Ylang-Ylang are known for their abilities to calm and relax, ease nervous tension, stress and anxieties, so this is a candle that is perfect for those moments when calmness and relaxation is a must. For me, whenever I run a bath, the place I escape too for some time out, I have had this candle alight in the bathroom as my bath runs and it is just incredible.

Within each one of these candles, there is what is called a mottling pattern or frosting and it is said to be a unique and natural effect of using vegetable waxes. The wax is trying to return back to its natural form and as a result it begins to slowly crystallise, now this is absolutely nothing to worry about, it doesn't just happen with candles from Lush, it also happens with many other brands and it in know way affects the candle in any way, just instead confirms that the wax is 100% natural.

This candle, though smaller than some others I own, has a burn time of 12-15 hours, which of course depends on how often you use and burn your candle for.  It is still on sale priced at £12 and it sits alongside two others - Orange Blossom and The Olive Branch, both of which sound incredible!
