Aviela Skincare

Meet Aviela, a natural skincare range using ethically sourced 100% pure, highest grade, unrefined pure Shea Butter as the hero ingredient and not quite like the Shea Butter you are used too.  I have been very lucky to have these two products in my possession for over a month now and they are both incredible.
Aviela Skincare
What I have loved learning about Aviela is how it came to exist and with such a personal story, it is one to read. The lady behind the brand, Patricia Monney tells this story

You wouldn’t expect a holiday to change your life, but it happened to my family in 2007 when a visit to my home country, Ghana in West Africa, actually changed two lives.

My name is Patricia Monney and, at the time my daughter, Charissa, was two years old but still hadn’t taken her first steps because of a stiff ankle that simply wouldn’t support her weight.

Our GP at home recommended that we allow the issue to resolve itself but, whilst on that Ghana holiday, a respected doctor suggested I massage unrefined Shea Butter into the ankle several times a day. It was hard to believe that this simple, everyday vegetable extract contained the kind of powers that would make a difference but, since it couldn’t do any harm, I duly massaged her ankle for a couple of minutes, three or four times a day. It took barely four days for Charissa to feel comfortable enough to put her weight on her foot. A day or so after that, she took those first precious steps.

While the massaging action itself no doubt played a role, ‘unrefined’ Shea Butter is widely known to have natural anti-inflammatory properties, and these clearly helped to make her ankle more comfortable.
From here, Patricia explains that the brand name - Aviela, pronounced A-vee-el-ah, is a very dynamic word used by the Dagara people from the Northern part of Ghana (where Patricia comes from) and that it generally has a positive connotation to mean something ‘Good’ or ‘Nice’ or ‘Beautiful’.  Now with a brand boasting of 6 products and 6 kits to choose from, you are spoilt for choice.

I have the Aviela Pure Shea Butter which is described as being the ultimate dry skin butter. It comes packaged in a weighty brown glass jar and everything you need to know about the product is clearly visible to see.
Aviela Skincare
Inside, you will find the most wonderfully 100% pure, highest grade unrefined Shea butter which, as you can see is fairly solid. It is rich in essential fatty acids, Vitamins A and E, and natural soothing properties. As you swipe your finger across the Shea Butter, you actually get a texture which is really light and airy, absolutely not what I was expecting, from the jar shown above.

On the skin, this Shea butter absorbs quite rapidly and it does leave a very thin layer on the skin's surface to form a natural protective barrier to prevent moisture loss.  I have used this Shea butter on my hands and feet over the past month by using a fairly thick layer and then covering with gloves or socks to give my hands and feet a bit of TLC and impressively there has been a huge difference in the dry, chapped feeling on my hands, especially on my palms and to the souls of my feet.

If you prefer a product with a different texture, then the Aviela Body Lotion is a great alternative to choose.  Packaged inside a pump action bottle for easy use, again, everything you need to know about this product is clearly visible.
Aviela Skincare
Described as being exquisite skin nourishment with the power of aromatherapy. This Shea butter body lotion is a rich blend of 100% pure, highest grade unrefined Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Crambe Seed, Sunflower Seed, Sweet Almond and Baobab Oils all brought together in a wonderfully light whipped lotion.

From those ingredients listed above, this body lotion is packed full of fatty acids, vitamins A, D, E and F. On the skin, it does absorb really quickly into the skin to deeply nourish and moisturise the skin, whilst at the same time, once again a smooth, soft layer of protection against dehydration is created.

That layer of protection from both products is in no way greasy or tacky, you don't even notice it is there, but your skin does thank you for it!  With prices from as little as £14 this brand is delightful!

Beauty Kin Body Bars

Meet Beauty Kin, a brand that is on a mission to turn bath and shower time into an experience for everybody and every body.
Beauty Kin Body Bars
Born of a frustration at not being able to find a plastic free product that only cleansed but nourished and provided a solution to our skin, they created bars packed with active ingredients to leave skin happy and healthy. Each bar is tailored to provide a specific skin issue solution and, unlike soap, won't dry your skin out.
"I wanted to create a set of plastic free products that enriched my daily routine. Products that actually did something, were environmentally friendly, that felt luxurious, looked great, but were an every day staple, accessible to all. I want to build a community of people that not only care about the environment, they also care about decent results from their skincare

100% created to tackle the issues our skin sometimes encounters, I hope you love them as much as I do. Join the Kin"
These Beauty Kin Bars are proudly vegan, soap-free, cruelty free, packaged in fully recyclable material, use 70% less water than shower gel in the manufacturing process and last twice as long as the average body wash according to the brand and they are available in a variety of options which includes an Exfoliating Body Bar, Hydrating Body Bar, Clarifying Body Bar and a Shaving Body Bar which are all £7 or around £3 for a mini version. If you are not sure which bar is the right one for you, there is a quiz that you can take - here, which will determine which bar you should be using.

I was kindly sent the Shaving Body Bar and the Clarifying Body Bar and have, only the past few weeks been putting them to the test.

The Shaving Body Bar - Designed for those that suffer with irritation or post shave burn, the Shaving bar contains active ingredients designed to moisturise, hydrate and to soothe.
Beauty Kin Body Bars
On the skin, this Shaving Bar is a great alternative to your traditional shave gels, whether you purchase your own or steal your partners. As soon as it comes into contact with water, the lather is really creamy and I happen to love how this particular bar smells and that is owing to those ingredients mentioned above, such as
  • Lavender is an excellent anti-inflammatory. It reduces redness, calms the skin and also soothes any rashes.
  • Squalene An emollient that mimics the skin to stop the loss of moisture and restore suppleness. Squalane is a vegan ingredient sourced from plants. It’s an excellent antioxidant and it won’t make your skin feel too greasy.
  • Sodium Cocoate - A rich coconut base which is an effective cleanser for dry skin.
  • Musk provides a rich deep earthy, woody intoxicating scent
I have absolutely nothing but praise for this Shaving Body Bar, it is simply delightful to use and definitely so much better than any shaving gel that I have used. My skin is left smooth, moisturised and there is no sight or sign of razor burn.

The Clarifying Body Bar is a great alternative to a liquid body cleanser and is perfect for those of us that suffer with facial blemishes, back blemishes and oily skin.
Beauty Kin Body Bars
Formulated with Salicylic acid which works to gently exfoliate the skin and unclog pores, Tamanu which works to reduce redness and aid scarring, Squalene to hydrate and moisturise before finally, there is the inclusion of Neroli which smells incredible but also acts as an anti-bacterial agent.  This cleansing bar is 100% soap free and is also pH-balanced to be gentle on the skin.  When it comes to using, you use it as you would a bar of soap and once the lather has been created, the advice is to leave it on the skin for around two minutes before rinsing.

A really lovely brand of skincare that has been a pleasure to get to know and if you are wanting to make the switch to using products which are plastic free, vegan, cruelty free and fully recyclable, then Beauty Kin is definitely a place to look.
