Revamp Your Interiors For The Holidays With These ‘Core’ and Aesthetics-Inspired Ideas

Head over to TikTok and you'll barely find people who describe their look as grunge, preppy, or casual. Instead, you'll hear words such as Regencycore, Old Money, Coastal Grandma, or Balletcore, which are aesthetic microtrends that have become recognisable buzzwords in real life and social media. In an interview with Glamour Magazine, beauty theorist and content creator Mikai Mcdermott says that these trends give women the option to engage in whatever interests them. “All of these ‘aesthetics,’ ‘eras,’ ‘cores’ happening concurrently prove that we can adapt and switch out our stylistic identities,” she adds. 

Cores and aesthetics have become such a huge part of beauty and fashion culture, and they've also started to influence interior design trends. Switching out your decor to permanently reflect one aesthetic may be too much of an undertaking, but borrowing just a few elements from these trends is a great way to deck out your home for the holiday season. Here are some core and aesthetics-inspired ideas to style your interiors for the holidays. 

Fairycore Magic 

If you want to incorporate a whimsical vibe into your home for Christmas, consider the Fairycore aesthetic to decorate your living spaces. Inspired by fairies and elves, this aesthetic involves the use of pastel colours, glitter, and lightweight fabrics, as seen on stars like Ariana Grande and Karol G. at this year's Met Gala. Since Fairycore visuals include lots of elements from nature and magic, it's a great way to add a dreamy feel to your interiors. 

Start by making butterflies out of gossamer fabric covered in glitter and attach them to the ceiling with string. Next, if you have a Christmas tree, decorate it with fairy and elf ornaments, bunny and deer figurines, oversized fabric flowers, and fairy lights. You can also print out and frame artwork or photos of pop culture elves and fairies (think about the Winx characters, or Orlando Bloom and Liv Tyler from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ films). Display these frames on shelves, sideboards, or hallways, or in unexpected places, such as the bathroom. Finally, add lots of flowering indoor plants to your living room, decorate with items in pastel colours, and place oversized light-up mushroom sculptures in key areas. If you have a hot tub on a paver patio, string up twinkling fairy lights around it to extend the magical vibe outdoors.

Mob Wife Aesthetic

Want an edgier, more over-the-top look for your home? You’ll need some styling inspiration from fictional mob wives like Connie Corleone and Carmela Soprano. The Mob Wife aesthetic, with its brazen attitude, flamboyance, and extravagance is a great way to channel your inner diva, and this microtrend can definitely add some glamour to your home decor. 

To add opulence to your interiors for the holiday season, spray some peelable gold paint on the legs and sides of your furniture (it will come off completely, so don't worry). Next, cover your couch in faux animal fabric, and all other soft surfaces and cushioned seats in jewel colours. Have an all red Christmas tree, then decorate the living room with gold candlesticks, golden sculptures, and replicas of famous artworks. Don't forget to add fur throws here and there for texture, and place plush rugs on the floor too. 

Fun and Feminine Barbiecore

Barbiecore may have reached its peak last year, but that shouldn't stop you from having your own life size dream house this holiday season. This trend features an ultra-feminine aesthetic, playful elements, and a liberal use of pink. If you love Barbie and all things pink, this could be your theme for your end-of-year celebrations. 

To nail this aesthetic, adorn your Christmas tree with pink and gold ornaments, then place a Barbie doll at the very top of it. Replace throw pillow covers with velvet ones in hot pink, and cover your couch with a pale pink fabric. Add accents like pink stemware, vases, and area rugs, then place pink scented candles all around your living room. Finish with a glittery disco ball on the ceiling, feathery lamps on tables, and lots of Barbie artwork everywhere.

Gaia - Introduction to Vegan Skincare

As I have mentioned previously, one of the things I enjoy the most about this hobby is being introduced to new brands that I might not ordinarily come across and today's brand is one of those. As part of my Gift Guide series for 2024, meet Gaia.

Gaia, a female-founded award-winning skincare, spa and wellness brand which was conceptualised alongside the five-star Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall Hotel in Devon and is now enjoyed at 50 spas and hotels across the UK and Ireland. 

I was kindly sent the Introduction to Vegan Skincare kit (£30) and it features a selection of all-vegan products, this set offers nourishing skincare the way nature intended.

Inside the box is a range of products for the face and body, including the award-winning Crystal Purifying Mask and Nourishing Cream, complemented with a muslin cloth to gently refresh the skin. Then there is the Awakening bath Oil and Balancing Body. This mini set allows you to sample the brand's range of ethically made vegan skincare.

Starting with the Purifying Mask which is said to combine the energy and healing properties of rose quartz crystal with the purest natural ingredients.  The rich pink hue comes from pomegranate and hibiscus, both packed with antioxidants that protect against damage and slow collagen breakdown. Pomegranate, a natural source of vitamin C, helps regulate sebum production and promotes cell rejuvenation, leaving your skin refreshed, firm, and silky smooth.

The Ultimate Oil for Hair - Edition 29

Do you remember back in the day when everyone would swear by the holy grail of hair oil from VO5? The one you would float in a cup of hot water to make your hair feel incredible?  Well... life has moved on since them and hair oils have evolved and got a whole lot better and here is one I am about to share with you.

As someone with fine hair but a lot of it, finding the right product to smooth and hydrate without weighing my hair down has always been tricky—especially since I struggle with dry ends and greasy roots.
