Steve and I have been together for 10 years, some people always give me that shocked look when I say that, I mean 10 years is a decade, or 3652 days or even 87658 hours, not that I am counting. We met in an unconventional way, at Euston station where we literally fell over one another, from that moment on, the rest as they say is history. May 14th 2004 is the day in which my life had a meaning and I have always been a big believer in fate and on that day, fate was most definitely waiting for me.
We got engaged and married quite quickly, some people had their own views and comments on that, we had been together for just 4 months when we became engaged and moved in together, Steve leaving behind everything he knew and loved in Manchester to be with me in London and then just two months after getting engaged we flew to Vegas with two friends to be married - on Christmas Day. I knew the moment I met Steve that I would marry him one day, it didn’t matter to me that the particular day would be just a few months later. I was never one for wanting a big church wedding, I never dreamed of being a princess for a day, infact I hate being the centre of attention and I would not have enjoyed it.
Since getting married, naturally life has its ups and downs and nothing is perfect, far from it and I am sure there are times when we could equally strangle the other one, but what makes him my best friend? He is the first thing I think about in a morning, as soon as I wake up and he is the last thing on my mind as I drift off to sleep. I smile when he texts me, when he emails me and even when my phone rings and his photo appears on my screen I smile. If I am feeling down and depressed he has the ability to make me smile when it is the furthest thing from my mind. If I am feeling lost or alone, when life gets too hard and I need some space, he understands and doesn’t try to crowd me. One thing I am not good at is talking about how I am feeling, it is something I have always struggled with but give me a pen and paper and I can tell you exactly how I feel.
Steve makes me laugh until my stomach aches, cry with laughter, he makes me feel loved and adored and he is always there for me, no matter how trivial the issue might be, he just has to hug me and I know things will be okay. He has supported me with my blogging, even though he only found out about it a few months ago and has now set his own up. He never judges me, he never assumes, he has two shoulders that are always there for me to lean on when I need them, someone to listen to me when I just want to rant on and on (this happens quite frequently), he laughs at my jokes, he understands me, he gives me courage and encourages me to try new things, he doesn’t get too angry when I won’t go Go Karting but most importantly he is always there for me, my tower of strength, my support, my guidance, my best friend and my absolute diamond, whom without I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

ReplyDeleteFor some reason people think you need to be with someone for years before your allowed to get married, I don't think there is anything wrong with getting married sooner. If you know, you know don't you?

DeleteAhh what a sweet post to look back to and remember the romance and love of how you met. I don't think you have to be together for a long period of time, I wasn't with my husband. When we know we know and that's all that matters. Glad you found your best friend!!!! Lovely pictures too!
ReplyDeleteThank you xx
DeleteAww this is so lovely :D
ReplyDeleteI don't think it matters how long you've been with someone before getting engaged and then married. You know how you feel about them and it's got nothing to do with anyone else! Belated congrats on your anniversary - I didn't know when it was before ;)
