Dressing for it!

A lot of my job is client based and to do it effectively and be taken seriously, I need to dress the part.  I could turn up to work in jeans and trainers, but would people take me seriously? Possibly not. I also take in a lot of students on work experience, working alongside local schools and colleges to give them some workplace skills and prepare them for their first jobs.

A lot of these students are of the age where they are completing A Levels and are deciding whether to go to University, College or into the workplace and one of the biggest challenges I find with most of them is the dress code.  Places such as City Calling where there is a huge number of jobs in construction would expect someone to dress appropriately for an interview regardless of the role they are going for.

Work Wear

The outfit above costs around £100 and is perfect for jobs interviews, it is smart, sophisticated and will get you taken seriously.

I believe that dressing for the role gives you an air of built in confidence and even now, if I have a really important meeting with some really powerful people, I find that if I dress as best as I can, I feel much better about myself, am less nervous and perform much better than I would, if I arrived in jeans and a jumped with my comfiest pair of shoes.

Do you feel the same?

  1. Very nice outfit! Absolutely agree with you, it's hard to take anyone seriously who turns uo in their scruffs!

  2. Good choice for a job interview, but perhaps it needs a pin or brooch to liven it up a bit. And a question: is it OK for shoes and a bag not to match? (I don't always follow the rule, and it might be out of fashion now, but not sure about job interviews)

  4. I definitely feel more confident when I'm dressed the part and it's nice to be reminded you don't have to spend a lot of money on an interview outfit! :)
