TangTracker - Protect your Child online!

Calling all you Mummies and Daddies, have you heard of Tangtracker?  No? Well let me tell you all about it.  Growing up for me as a child was so different to life these days, I remember having free roam of the local park and my parents always safe in the knowledge that they knew where I was and who I was with and what time I would be home, these days I know friends who have children constantly worry about where they are, is it where they have said they will be and panic mode sets in when they are not back at the agreed time, to be honest I am the same with my Hubby, but I am one of those natural born worriers.

Thankfully the technological age is rapidly advancing and almost everyone I know has some sort of mobile phone device, even my nephew who is just 9 years old, it has, on many occasions been more helpful than anything, especially when he fell off a slide and broke his ankle.

Tangtracker is an app that helps tackle dangers that the internet and smartphone environment can pose to our immediate community especially children and other vulnerable people.  The app is built on three main principles which are:
  • Trust
  • Honesty
  • Transparency
The Tangtracker app, once downloaded, will help parents track and monitor the activities of their children via their smart phone.  This includes everything on the phone such as SMS & MMS messages, calls, location, browser history to name but a few.  All of these options are designed to put your mind, as that parent, at ease.  Now you will no longer need to worry where your child is because the location option, will tell you, naturally you do need to be connected to the internet for this to happen, so the use of 3G and WiFi are needed.  You can look at how many times someone has called your child, how many messages they are sending and so on.  As well as all these features, the one I was particularly impressed to find out about is that your child will be able to send you, the parent a distress signals using one of the key buttons on the phone when they are in a dire situation, again this could be a really useful tool to have.

So what do you need to get the app? Well here is the list:
  • An Andorid Mobile Phone – the app is currently for Android phones only
  • A Gmail Account to download it via Google Play
  • Your phone to be connected to 3G or WiFi
This is an app you have to pay a yearly subscription for but if you are still not sure the good news is that there is a 30-day free trial period before you are prompted to purchase the app, so you can try before you buy.

For further information you can find a really help FAQ section on the Tangtracker website HERE along with up to date news and reviews.

What do you think to the idea of this app? Is it something you would consider using?

  3. I think its a great idea. I don't know if it'd work with teenagers though, if they don't want mummy and daddy knowing where they are...

But for younger children (if they have a phone) I think its good :) xx
