Silentnight Electric Blanket

One thing I love to be is snug and there is nothing worse than getting into a cold bed, even worse when you have a husband whose feet resemble blocks of ice and he thinks it is funny to put them on you. I always have a few hot water bottles to hand just incase but then my Mum suggested getting a heated blanket. Now, when she first said it I laughed, are they not for 'old people', apparently rather offended, they are not.

There are so many different kinds of electric blankets that I settled for one from a well known brand, Silentnight. It is described as being very energy efficient and it takes 10 minutes to warm your bed, the latter of which sold it to me. I have a Kingsize bed and it cost £29.99 which really is a bargain and it measures 137cm x 165 cm which makes it a perfect size for my bed.

The blanket itself comes inside a really handy transparent plastic bag which you can also use to store the blanket in when you don't need in the warmer months. Once onto the bed it has ties at the end which go under the mattress to secure it in place, you can use it as an under-blanket because of the fleece material which also makes your bed really snug and cosy and thankfully you cannot feel the wires to the blanket as you sleep.

Obviously for the blanket to work, there needs to be a cord and with this one it is fairly lengthy, so for those of you who don't have a socket near to your bed, you shouldn't have too much of a problem, I would guess the cord is around 2ft in length. Once you have everything secured into place, there are 3 heat settings, the first setting is the lowest setting and produces quite a mild heat, the second setting is slightly warmer and the hottest setting being the one I use if it is absolutely freezing outside and I want a nice warm snug bed and then I turn it down once I have warmed up. There is also no need to worry about overheating because this blanket has what is called over-heat protection though I would never leave it on overnight.

Since having this blanket I haven't noticed any huge jump in my energy bills which I am thankful for and finally this is blanket is machine washable and you can bung it in the tumble dryer too, the cord being detachable for washing.

For me this has been a life saver and for the price I paid, it is genuinely worth the money and it is much nicer getting into a warm bed than a stone cold one and what's more, in this weather it is more than perfect!

  1. Nathan's always going on about getting an electric blanket but I'm so scared that if we do, it would overheat and blow up like Stacey's backpack did! Great review though, maybe I will let him get one after reading this ;)

  6. I need one of these - I really do Rachel! My feet are like blocks of ice, my hubby has to get in bed and warm my side up first (he's a very warm one!) - if I had an electric blanket he could stay over on his side! xx
