Skin 3 Facial

When asked if I wanted to review a facial, it didn't take me long to agree though I was quite nervous and apprehensive. In my lifetime I have only ever had one facial and it was so bad and left me with a burnt patch of skin under my chin due to an allergic reaction, it put me off for life, I took to doing my own version at home.

Skin3 are based in Swiss Cottage, London and describe themselves like this:

"At Skin3, we take a holistic, scientific approach to skincare which means that you’ll get the best possible results".

Skin3 in Swiss Cottage
Upon my arrival I was welcomed with such warmth and care that I felt like royalty, nothing was too much trouble and I was left to look around and touch things, like a child in a sweet shop. The one thing I noticed as I looked around was how spacious and clean everything was giving it that ultra professional vibe and whilst there were other customers present, they were all treated so warmly and like long lost family members rather than business acquaintances.

I was then introduced to the very lovely Faye who explained to me that I was about to learn more about my skin in the next 90 minutes than I probably had ever done so in my life.  Taking me through a series of questions, such as:
  • How many units of alcohol I drink a week
  • Do I eat oily fish
  • Have I ever over-exposed myself in the sun
Those being just a few of the questions I was asked and I answered them as honestly as I could. This process is described as a journey and Skin3 use it to create a bespoke skin are regime for your skin using the very latest of technology to look at your skin both on the surface and below the surface.

I was introduced to a machine which would take a photo of my skin below the surface; yes you read that correctly, of my skin.  This machine in question uses ultra-violet rays to look and see below the surface of your skin and then those images appear on the computer skin and they are used to measure sun damage, sebum, lines, the elasticity of your skin and your skins moisture - as I said the camera never lies! I was quite surprised at how good a condition my skin is in, hardly any wrinkles and lines, my main problem is dry cheeks which was picked up and a few clogged pores all of which I was assured could be treated, though not with immediate results and with no miracles. You can read more about this here and see some photos (though not of me) which give a further insight as to what you can expect and see.

Then I was off to the treatment room.  I really didn't know what to expect, remember I am feeling quite nervous because of a bad past experience, though Faye was wonderful and put me at ease throughout the whole process.  Once in the treatment room, I was surprised at how relaxing the surroundings where and I immediately relaxed and got myself comfortable on the bed and was told what was going to happen, what the treatments would be, what my skin would be feeling like during those treatments, what I can expect to find after the treatments and at every opportunity I was able to ask questions.

The treatment room itself, all bright white in colour with mood music and a relaxing setting was really lovely and clean and my experience lasted over an hour and I can honestly say it was the best hour of my life.  I have never felt so relaxed and stress free, all my worldly worries were left behind and my concentration was on me and my skin.  As each treatment took place and Faye continued explain everything to me and in doing so I learnt what each treatment did, how my skin would react and what the outcome would be, a wealth of information that kept me fascinated and a little excited to see the results.

One of the treatments I had is called the Environ® HydraBoost Treatment and it is described as being "The perfect antidote to a dry, lacklustre complexion, this intensive treatment deeply hydrates while plumping and firming the skin. Based on Hyaluronic Acid, it helps to reduce fine lines caused by dehydration and increases the plumpness of the dermis, resulting in moisturised, glowing skin" and all I can say is that it is simply the best thing I have ever had done.

As soon as the treatments had finished there I am looking at my skin in the mirror and I think my first words were "look at my glowing skin" yes I was so shocked at how wonderful my skin looked, I was scared to touch it.  When I did run my fingertips over my skin, I was totally amazed at the softness and where I had dry skin on my cheek, it had gone as had the slightly dehydrated feel that my skin had before the treatment. My cheeks were rosy without the need to add blusher.

Again I was talked through each process and each step was explained so that I could understand what it was all about and how each step of the treatments had worked on my skin.

Throughout my whole time at Skin3 I was entirely fascinated by the process and I learnt so much about myself, my habits and my skin that even now, a few weeks after the treatment, I am sticking religiously to the regime I was given and I can honestly say my skin looks and feels fantastic still.  I will review the skincare regime in a separate blog post, so watch out for it.

I would sincerely like to thank Faye and the whole of Skin3 for taking the time they did with me and for the unforgettable experience which will stay with me for a long time to come. Their knowledge kindness and patience is a testament to their professionalism and for me, I overcame a fear of allowing a stranger to touch my skin and not to be so afraid.  Also for the lovely gift package that I received, truly generous.

Again to read more about Skin3 and their treatment menu and if you are interested in your skin as I am, I cannot recommend highly enough a visit to their Salon.  I am definitely wanting to go back to have a massage to see if my lower backache and the stress in my shoulders can be eased.

  7. I'm always jealous when people say they've been for a massage or a facial, I love them but have to travel for miles and miles if I want to get one (living in the middle of nowhere sucks). You'll have to let us know if you do go back for a massage!!
